BI-KA Logisztika Kft. of Szolnok, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, as an outstanding logistics service provider of the East Hungarian region is at its partners’ disposal with a continuously expanding range of services and with a customer-oriented approach, thanks to which it became a medium-size company with 150 employees and with 6 billion HUF of annual turnover. Among the company’s strategic goals the environmentally responsible mind-set and the support of sustainable development have particular importance, starting from the expansion of the truck fleet with the latest fittings to the recent introduction of ISO 14001 environmental management system.
In order to decrease the externalities during road transport, and as a result of examining the opportunity of rail transport, the railway siding network at the Regional Logistics Services Centre site of BI-KA Logisztika Kft. has been reactivated. In recognition of its environmentally responsible activity the company received a Certificate of Appreciation on 13 April at the V. Greenovation Grand Prix competition organized by Professional Publishing Hungary Kft., for the company’s entry, “Iparvágány hálózat reaktiválása és a vasúti szállítmányozási tevékenység elindítása a BI-KA Logisztika Kft-nél a szolgáltatásbővítés és a környezettudatosság fokozása érdekében” (The reactivation of the railway siding network and the launching of rail transport at BI-KA Logisztika Kft. in order to expand services and to enhance environmental awareness).
With the help of the solution presented in the competition, by the end of the year 2015 the company provided the transport of 500 wagons of goods by rail transport, which means 77,3% less carbon dioxide, 94% less nitrous oxide, and 95.6% less carbon monoxide emission, as compared to this amount of goods being transported on roads.
In its rail logistics division BI-KA Logisztika Kft. successfully combined environmental and economic aspects, thereby offering options for its partners in transport solutions.
